‘Cultural trail’ to tackle Aboriginal overrepresentation in youth jail

Children in detention will from today be able to meet with Aboriginal Elders and reflect on their offending in a new outdoor space, as part of a State Government push to curb the overrepresentation of Aboriginal youth in the justice system.

Human Services Minister Michelle will today unveil a new “Aboriginal Cultural Trail” at the Kurlana Tapa Youth Justice Centre at Cavan, which will provide a culturally-appropriate space for Aboriginal Elders to offer support to detainees.
